We are currently performing a Value Chain Analysis (VCA) of several small scale fisheries in the Indian Ocean (Madagascar and Indonesia). The specific aim of the project is to identify the steps where quality losses occur at the first stages of the supply chain to recommend interventions to curb them, thus ultimately improving the livelihoods of local fishing communities.
Since the beginning of September we have been very busy here. Two weeks ago, we attended a capacity building training course at the Marine Stewardship Council’s headquarters in London. It was very interesting to know a bit more about the problems the MSC experts face when scoring a fishery against the MSC standard. The course was attended by MSC fisheries experts, government agencies and NGO’s representatives, MSC staff, etc. So, it was a good place to learn a bit more about the projects in which they are currently involved.
